EFFURUN/Nigeria: The Benue State Governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom, has described lack of provision of access to effective education of the people by Leaders in Nigeria as one of the contributing factors to insecurity challenge bedevilling the nation.
Governor Ortom, who stated this in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area during the commissioning of a-two storeyed building at Army Day Secondary School, Effurun, described Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as a committed in his administration’s determination towards achieving results for the good people of the state.
Dr. Ortom, who lauded the Governor for his passion for the education sector and other critical sectors of the economy, said that without education, there would be no meaningful development in any society.
In his remarks, Delta State Governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, said that education was paramount in his stronger Delta mantra, explaining that the facilities in the school were sufficient to address the education needs of 2912 students of the school.
While assuring of his administration’s commitment to building more schools and continue to provide infrastructural development, Governor Okowa noted that several youths in the state had continually been trained in skill and empowerment programmes as well as provided with starterpacks in order for them to be self reliant.
He recalled that recently approval have been secured for the newly established three universities making it a total of four state owned universities in the state, saying that his administration remained irrevocably determined to completing the dualisation of the Effurun/Warri road and massive drainage system in Uvwie, just as he maintained that good drainage system was key for the durability of any road projects.
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Patrick Ukah, said that the state was celebrating the completion of another infrastructure in its school that would facilitate teaching and learning in a conducive environment.
Ukah, who appreciated Senator Okowa for his total commitment to the development of the education sector in the state, noted that Army Day Secondary School was founded in 1986 as Command Day Secondary School (CDSS), Effurun comprising school 1 and 2.
The Basic and Secondary Education Commissioner, who applauded the school management, Parent Teachers Association (PTA), and the Army authority for their cooperation during the period the project was undergoing execution, admonished teachers and students of the school to guard against vandalism of the facilities as government would not tolerate such destruction of school facilities.
The Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Area, Hon. Rasom Tega Onoyake, who said Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was actualising his electioneering promises to Deltans through giant strides in infrastructural development in various sectors, commended the Governor for providing conducive learning environment for children across the state.
