Government Committed to Empowering Delta Youth, Says Ministry’s Permanent Secretary

AASAB/Nigeria:  The Delta State Government has reaffirmed the its dedication to providing the best opportunities for the youth in the state.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Development, Ms. Ngozi Mogbolu, state this recently when the Ministry  met with the executives of the Delta State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).

Ms. Mogbolu emphasized the Ministry of Youth Development’s role as a home for the youth, stating, “Your happiness is paramount to us, and we want to be the first partakers.” She praised the Chairman of the NYCN Delta State Chapter for his heartfelt dedication to the youth, recognizing his genuine passion for their well-being.

Ms. Mogbolu had called for the meeting to familiarize herself with the different youth bodies in the council, understand their needs, and devise a way forward. She assured the executives that their requests had been noted, and efforts would be made to reestablish the youth exchange program. Additionally, she expressed the Ministry’s intent to involve youth in security matters.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Dioru Sheho, the Director of Youth Mobilization, encouraged the youth to remain organized and assured them of the Ministry’s support whenever needed.

Ambassador Kenneth Okorie, Chairman of the Delta State NYCN, commended Ms. Mogbolu for her exceptional leadership. He highlighted the urgency of revitalizing the exchange youth program and addressing the lack of training and skill acquisition opportunities for Delta’s youth in the past five years. Ambassador Okorie proposed consolidating all youth bodies in the state under one organization for more effective administration and suggested partnering with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to tackle the issue of drug abuse among the youth.

Ambassador Okorie further requested that the Ministry consider absorbing the youth as adhoc staff and officially inform the different local government chairpersons about the upcoming International Youth Day Celebration.

The meeting concluded on a positive note with the presentation of souvenirs to the Permanent Secretary and a group photograph to commemorate the occasion. As the Ministry of Youth Development takes note of the concerns raised by the Delta State NYCN executives, the commitment to empowering Delta’s youth remains steadfast.
