OMETAN/Nigeria: In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has expressed his condolences to the grieving community of Ometan in Okpe Local Government Area. The sorrowful occasion follows a devastating tanker fire that claimed the lives of seven community members on Friday morning.
Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing incident, detailing how the tanker, carrying a load of fuel, toppled over on the Warri – Sapele Road in Ometan community around 10 am. Governor Oborevwori, accompanied by prominent state figures including Speaker Emomotimi Guwor and former Okpe Local Government Council Chairman Isaiah Esiovwa, visited the scene to extend his sympathies.
Reflecting on the tragedy, Governor Oborevwori shared his sentiments: “I was just coming from the creeks where I went to inspect projects and there was no network so immediately I arrived at the Navy jetty, I received a message from the Head of Personnel Management of Okpe Local Government Council informing me of the sad incident. On getting here I saw dead bodies and those who witnessed the unfortunate incident said the tanker had an accident and exploded which led to the fire explosion. It is a very sad situation and I commiserate with the people of Ometan community and families of those who lost their lives in this unfortunate incident.”
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by transportation of hazardous materials and underscores the need for stringent safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
