ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated the newly elected members of the State Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following their successful election at the State Congress. Speaking to journalists after the event, Governor Oborevwori praised the peaceful conduct of the congress and expressed gratitude for the prevailing unity within the party.
“The congress was peaceful, and we are thankful for the good weather today,” Governor Oborevwori stated. “You can see that we are united in Delta State, which is why there is no crisis.”
The Governor emphasized the importance of maintaining unity within the party, particularly as it prepares for the 2027 elections. However, he cautioned against focusing too much on the upcoming elections, urging party members to prioritize good governance for the people of Delta State.
The congress, which took place at the Cenotaph in Asaba, was attended by 3,152 delegates, including key figures such as the Governor, his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, immediate past Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Senator Ned Nwoko, Senator James Manager, and Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor.
The election was overseen by a team of PDP officials from Abuja, led by Prof. Frank Collins Okafor, and was supervised by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as well as independent observers.
During the congress, Chief Solomon Arenyeka was elected as the State Chairman, with Mr. Moses Iduh as Deputy Chairman. Other key officials elected include Engr. Daniel Ossai (Vice Chairman, Delta North Senatorial District), Hon. Anthony Akpomiemie (Vice Chairman, Delta Central Senatorial District), Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba (Vice Chairman, Delta South Senatorial District), Chief Isaacs Itebu (Secretary), Chief Chibuzor Uwajei (State Treasurer), Hon. Fidelis Adjogbe (Financial Secretary), Dr. Ebenezer Okorodudu (Publicity Secretary), Hon. Emmanuel Egbabor (Organizing Secretary), Barr. Hessington Okolo (State Legal Adviser), Chief Mrs. Dora Sakpaide (State Woman Leader), Barr. Francis Okolie (State Youth Leader), and Pastor Alex Akemotubo (State Auditor), among others.
In his farewell remarks, outgoing State Chairman, Dr. Kingsley Esiso, commended party leaders and stakeholders for their unwavering support over the years. He encouraged the new executive to base their leadership on the principles of unity, strength, and the winning spirit of the party.
Prof. Frank Collins Okafor, who chaired the election panel, lauded the smooth and orderly conduct of the elections, noting that they were held in strict accordance with party rules.
He described the Delta PDP as a model for peaceful congresses and suggested that the National Working Committee of the party should replicate this example across the country.
