ASABA/Nigeria: The Director General of Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has reaffirmed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s determination to deliver high-quality infrastructure across Delta State.
Speaking on a public affairs radio program in Asaba on Thursday, Oghenesivbe emphasized that the governor’s routine inspection of ongoing road projects is a crucial part of his oversight functions.
These inspections, he said, ensure that contractors and engineers align with the state government’s vision of delivering standard projects that reflect value for taxpayer money.
Oghenesivbe warned that any contractor or site engineer attempting to compromise on quality would face severe consequences, stating, “Contractors and engineers must brace up. Our governor is not ready to settle for less. Those who fail to meet the expected standards risk contract repudiation, refund of public funds, or even legal action.”
He further highlighted Governor Oborevwori’s refusal to commission substandard projects, citing the recent Isheagu-Ewulu 9.1-kilometer road project. The governor, upon finding deficiencies in the work, ordered the contractor—who had been engaged under the previous administration—to return to the site and rectify the errors.
While commending former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for initiating the Isheagu-Ewulu project due to its economic importance to the state, Oghenesivbe assured that Governor Oborevwori would see it through to completion. He praised the Commissioners for Works, Comrade Reuben Izeze (Urban and Rural Roads) and Charles Aniagwu (Rural and Riverine Projects), for their commitment to ensuring all projects are delivered without compromise.
“The governor has demonstrated his capacity and willingness to ensure that every infrastructure project is worth the taxpayers’ money,” Oghenesivbe said. “His decision to have the contractor return to the Isheagu-Ewulu road site reflects his focus and dedication to delivering meaningful development under the MORE agenda.”
Oghenesivbe also stressed that the governor’s experience in construction matters makes him well-equipped to scrutinize projects. “Governor Oborevwori played key roles during the construction of Osubi Airport and other major projects. He cannot be manipulated by contractors or site engineers.”
Advising contractors, Oghenesivbe concluded, “Do the right thing. Avoid cutting corners. Deliver standard projects, or face the consequences of public embarrassment and sanctions.”
