Governor Oborevwori Confirms Delta State’s Readiness to Host 8th National Youth Games

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has announced that the state is fully prepared to host the 8th National Youth Games, set to begin in Asaba on Thursday. Speaking to journalists after inspecting key facilities at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, the main venue for the event, the Governor expressed confidence in the state’s readiness.

Governor Oborevwori, who toured the swimming pool, shooting range, and other facilities at the Indoor Sports Hall, was accompanied by the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Chief Solomon Ogba, and senior officials from the State Sports Commission.

He confirmed that 5,776 athletes from 29 states had already arrived and registered for the games ahead of the official opening ceremony.

“We are ready to host the National Youth Games,” the Governor stated. “As of this morning, 29 states have arrived, and 5,776 athletes are registered. I am confident that this year’s games will surpass last year’s event in every way.”

Highlighting the importance of the games in discovering new talent, Oborevwori referred to the success of Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili, a product of previous National Youth Games. “The results from hosting these games are clear,” he said. “In the last Olympics in Paris, Favour Ofili performed exceptionally well, even though she didn’t win a medal. She is one of the talents we discovered through these games. This year, we hope to uncover even greater talents.”

The Governor assured the public that this year’s edition of the National Youth Games would be a step up from previous years, both in talent and execution.
