ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims who tragically lost their lives in a devastating tanker explosion at Koko junction, along the Warri-Benin expressway on Sunday.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori extended his sympathies to the grieving families affected by the unfortunate incident.
The Governor disclosed that the State Emergency Management Agency, under the leadership of Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Ejiro Terry, had swiftly mobilized to the scene to provide essential assistance and support to the victims and their families.
Blaming the tragic incident on the deplorable condition of federal roads, Governor Oborevwori reiterated his appeal to the Federal Government to take immediate action in reconstructing the deteriorated portions of the road. He emphasized that the people of Delta State and commuters routinely face perilous conditions while navigating the road, stressing the urgency of addressing this issue to prevent further incidents of this nature.
Governor Oborevwori also used this opportunity to caution the public against the perilous act of attempting to siphon fuel from a fallen tanker, warning that it poses an imminent danger. He stated, “In the early hours of today, we received reports of an explosion at Koko junction along the Warri-Benin expressway. On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I commiserate with families of the victims who lost their lives to the inferno.”
He further added, “This sad and unfortunate incident would have been avoided if the Federal Government had lived up to their responsibility of maintaining their roads. While I mourn the deceased, I use this medium to reiterate my earlier call on the Federal Government to save the lives of our people from these harrowing experiences. I also use this medium to advise our people to refrain from the dangerous act of scooping fuel from a fallen tanker because of the highly inflammable nature of the product.”
Governor Oborevwori’s heartfelt condolences and urgent call for road repairs highlight the pressing need for improved infrastructure and safety measures to protect the lives and well-being of citizens in Nigeria.
