SAPELE/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has attributed his survival of 38 court cases, spanning from pre-election to post-election disputes, including cases at the Supreme Court, to the prayers of church leaders.
Governor Oborevwori made this assertion on Saturday at the wedding ceremony of Mr. and Mrs. Ovoke Akpobasa, held at the Light of Christ Ministry, Sapele.
During the ceremony, Governor Oborevwori, who described the groom as a son to him, congratulated the couple on their successful marriage ceremony. He emphasized his commitment to serving all Deltans, regardless of the size of their church, noting that one could serve God anywhere.
Accompanied by his wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, and other top government functionaries, the Governor expressed gratitude to the “great men of God” who prayed for him. He attributed his legal victories to divine grace, stating, “I want to thank all the great men of God that stood firm praying for me to survive 38 cases. It was indeed the grace of God.”
The Chairman of the occasion and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi, lauded Governor Oborevwori as a people-friendly and grassroots-oriented leader. He expressed delight at the Governor’s presence at the event, highlighting his grassroots connection, which he described as unprecedented.
Chief Obiuwevbi then offered a prayer for Governor Oborevwori, invoking divine blessings and opportunities upon him. He commended the newlyweds for their obedience to their parents, emphasizing the importance of honoring parents, a biblical injunction.
In his sermon titled “The Pillars of Marriage,” Pastor Efe Okuigbedi admonished the couple to live as friends, pray together, love each other, and avoid allowing third parties into their home. He emphasized the significance of love and tolerance in the marriage institution, urging them to continue learning and growing together.
The presence of Governor Oborevwori at the wedding ceremony highlighted his close ties with the community and his appreciation for the support of church leaders, whose prayers he credited for his legal victories.
