Governor Oborevwori Extends Compassion to Ailing Elder Statesman Chief Frank Kokori

ASABA/Nigeria: In a display of statesmanship that transcends political affiliations, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State visited the bedside of Chief Frank Kokori, a revered elder statesman and former General Secretary of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG). The visit took place at an undisclosed hospital in Warri on Friday, prompted by information reaching the Governor about Kokori’s ailing health.

During the visit, Governor Oborevwori pledged the commitment of the State Government to provide all necessary support for Chief Kokori’s quality treatment. Emphasizing Kokori’s significant contributions to the nation, especially in the realm of labor leadership, the Governor asserted that the elder statesman deserved the attention and backing of the State Government.

Governor Oborevwori’s generosity extended beyond Chief Kokori, as he also took the initiative to settle the hospital bills for two other patients, Nnadi Silas and Adenusi Michael. Despite political differences, the Governor affirmed his dedication to ensuring that Chief Kokori received the recognition befitting his status as an illustrious elder statesman from Delta State.

“I know people will think that because he is an APC chieftain I won’t be here, Deltans voted for me as Governor. It is not a party matter now because we have finished the election, and all of us are one. Whether he is APC or not, I am Governor for all Deltans, so I am here as Governor for all, not for any party,” Governor Oborevwori underscored.

In response, Chief Frank Kokori commended Governor Oborevwori for transcending political boundaries and exemplifying a level of compassion akin to the Yoruba tradition, where elder statesmen are treated with respect regardless of their political affiliations.

“I never knew Governor Oborevwori is a good man because immediately he heard about my condition, he came to see me. He is a real Governor, a man who has such a heart is a good man, and I have told him certain things privately on how he will make his name in the history of Nigeria. I am happy with him and have also prayed for him,” Chief Kokori expressed his gratitude.

Governor Oborevwori’s visit to Chief Kokori not only reflects his commitment to the well-being of the elderly but also underscores the importance of statesmanship that transcends political divides in the service of the people.
