Governor Oborevwori Honors Fallen Heroes with Top Military Officials

ASABA/Nigeria: In commemoration of Nigeria’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, took center stage alongside distinguished military officers to pay tribute at the solemn ceremony held at the Cenotaph in Asaba, the state capital.

Governor Oborevwori, arriving at the venue, inspected the guard of honour, impeccably presented by the Nigerian Army, Airforce, Navy, and members of the Nigerian Legion. The ceremony was a poignant moment to reflect on the sacrifices made by soldiers in various peacekeeping operations and the Nigerian civil war.

A minute of silence enveloped the gathering, accompanied by a 21-gun salute, a reverent gesture in honor of the fallen heroes who had valiantly served the nation.

The climax of the event came with Governor Oborevwori’s symbolic release of pigeons, echoing a commitment to peace and a collective resolve to steer clear of actions that could precipitate violence or war.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed annually on January 15, serves as a poignant reminder of the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country. This year’s ceremony included the launch of an emblem and a special thanksgiving service dedicated to those affected by conflict.

Dignitaries present at the event included the State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor (represented by his Deputy, Rt Hon. Arthur Akpowowo), Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice Theresa Diai (represented by Justice Kwame Okpu), Commanders of various military formations, Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Wale Abass, Chairman of the state’s traditional rulers’ council HRM Maj. Gen. Felix Mujakperuo, Orhue I, religious leaders, Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, and representatives of the widows, among others, who solemnly laid wreaths to honour the departed.
