ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has declared that his administration has transformed the state into a massive construction site, attributing his success to divine intervention.
The Governor made these remarks during a thanksgiving service at Living Faith Church, Ibusa Road, Asaba, marking the first anniversary of his tenure.
“In spite of the intense opposition I faced, including 38 legal challenges, we have turned Delta State into a construction powerhouse with 317 projects across the state,” said Governor Oborevwori. “Of these, 76 road projects covering 171.49 kilometers and 85.30 kilometers of drains were initiated in the past year alone.”
Highlighting the progress made, the Governor announced that the inauguration of several roads and other sector projects would commence soon, showcasing the administration’s accomplishments. Reflecting on the past year, he remarked, “It has been a period of trials and triumphs, tests and testimonies, adversity and hope. Through it all, God has been faithful.”
Governor Oborevwori shared a personal testament of divine intervention, recalling a recent car accident from which his family emerged unscathed.
“Indeed, I owe God a debt of gratitude for His unfailing love, goodness, protection, and sustaining grace,” he expressed.
Acknowledging the support of his wife, Deputy Governor, predecessors, the National and State House of Assembly, the judiciary, civil service, security agencies, and various leaders, Oborevwori emphasized, “Together, we shall build the Delta State of our dreams.”
Reflecting on the 2022 PDP governorship primary election, which he described as the most keenly contested in the state’s history, he stated, “Without the divine touch of God, I would not have been elected governor.”
He credited his victory to divine choice, referencing scripture to illustrate his journey: “The race is not for the swift, nor the battle for the strong, but time and chance happen to them all.”
Governor Oborevwori recounted the multitude of litigations that followed his primary and general election victories, noting, “I contended with 38 different lawsuits from those determined to stop me, but God saw me through.”
He quoted Psalm 34:19, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all,” as a reflection of his trials and ultimate triumph.
In his sermon, Pastor Adekunle Shiyanbade of Living Faith Church emphasized the power of regular thanksgiving, commending Governor Oborevwori for his gratitude and encouraging continued faithfulness.
“The only way up is giving regular thanks to God,” Pastor Shiyanbade remarked, highlighting the seven wonders of thanksgiving: change of level, divine preservation, multiplication, divine intervention, access to divine secrets, change of condition, and favor.
The thanksgiving service saw the Governor and his wife, Tobore, joined by notable guests including Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme and his wife, former Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and his wife, former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, and several other dignitaries, all coming together in gratitude for the administration’s achievements and divine guidance over the past year.
