Governor Oborevwori Meets President Tinubu Following Tragic Killing of 17 Military Personnel

ABUJA/Nigeria: In response to the devastating loss of 17 military personnel, including high-ranking officers, in Okuoma community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori held a crucial meeting with President Bola Tinubu. The incident occurred during what was described as a “peacekeeping mission.”

Expressing deep concern over the tragic event, both the Delta State and federal governments have vehemently condemned the attack, vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice. Governor Oborevwori’s visit to the presidency aimed to update President Tinubu on the unfolding situation.

Following a closed-door discussion, Governor Oborevwori briefed State House correspondents, affirming that the situation is being effectively managed to prevent further attacks. He emphasized that the longstanding issues between the communities involved had been addressed through a recent peace accord, making the recent violence unexpected.

Governor Oborevwori asserted, “We condemn the killing of the officers and soldiers who were on a peace mission. We are committed to ensuring that such attacks do not recur. Those responsible will face justice, while innocent citizens will be protected.”

He further disclosed that security measures were being intensified, with specific details withheld due to their sensitive nature. Governor Oborevwori underscored the need to provide support to the families of the fallen soldiers and ensure lasting peace in the affected communities.
