ASABA/Nigeria: Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has taken decisive action in response to the dire state of Umeh Road, which has been severely affected by erosion. The governor has directed the State Ministry of Works to conduct a thorough assessment of the road and expedite repair work to address the pressing issue. The 7.1km road and its accompanying bridge, constructed and inaugurated during the Emmanuel Uduaghan administration in 2015, were intended to provide crucial connectivity between the community and the East-West Road, as well as other areas of the state.
The intervention by Governor Oborevwori comes on the heels of impassioned appeals made by the community, the Isoko Development Union (IDU), and Chief Duncan Afahokor, a prominent figure from the affected area. Recognizing the urgency of the situation and the potential isolation faced by the community if swift action is not taken, these voices implored the governor to promptly address the road’s deteriorating condition.
Governor Oborevwori, upon receiving the appeals, wasted no time in taking action. He promptly instructed the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Engr. Fred Edafiaghor, to evaluate the situation and propose an immediate solution. In line with the governor’s directive, the Permanent Secretary dispatched a team of engineers to the site. They are currently assessing the extent of the damage and devising appropriate steps to rectify the erosion-related issues that have plagued Umeh Road.
The swift response from the governor and the engagement of the Ministry of Works demonstrate a commitment to ensuring the restoration of this crucial transportation artery. As the engineers diligently work on finding the most effective remedies, the government remains steadfast in its determination to address the pressing concerns faced by the Umeh Road community.
