Governor Oborevwori Pledges Comprehensive Education for Every Child in Delta State

OZORO/Nigeria: Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has declared that he will not leave any child behind in the pursuit of a world-class education.

The Governor stated this on Thursday during the inauguration of projects at the Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area, where he outlined his administration’s commitment to providing complete and functional education comparable to global standards.

The projects unveiled as part of the celebration marking his administration’s first 100 days in office include an Administrative building, Vice-Chancellor’s Lodge, Staff School building, University Guest House/squash court, and two kilometers of interlock/concrete Road within the University premises.

Commending the University’s management for executing these projects through internally generated revenue, Governor Oborevwori assured the people of Delta State that his administration would persistently invest in upgrading educational infrastructure to create a conducive learning environment.

Governor Oborevwori expressed his appreciation for the previous administration led by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for establishing three new universities in the state. He urged these institutions to prioritize research as a means to address the multifaceted challenges facing society.

Governor Oborevwori articulated his vision, saying, “The goal of this administration is to ensure that every child has access to a complete and functional education. Within the limits of available resources, we shall not relent to fill whatever gaps that exist in the physical appearance of our educational institutions. There is also a compelling need to reevaluate and reform the software aspect of our educational system. In a global economy where the most valuable skill you can sell is your knowledge, the education we offer must be at par with global standards.”

He stressed the importance of innovation in education and called on policymakers, educators, teachers, administrators, and consultants to collaborate in enriching curricula and teaching practices. Governor Oborevwori emphasized the significance of groundbreaking, cross-disciplinary research in addressing complex challenges in an increasingly diverse and technological society.

The governor underscored the need for universities to undertake research that directly benefits society by providing solutions to issues such as urban decay, potable water supply, alternative energy sources, public transport networks, and waste treatment and management.

In another location, Okpolo-Enhwe, where he inaugurated Phase 2 of the Okpolo-Enhwe – Uwheru Road in Isoko South Local Government Area, Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed his commitment to infrastructure development, even amid financial constraints. He promised to continue constructing and rehabilitating roads and bridges to enhance urban-rural integration and boost trade and commerce in Delta State.

Governor Oborevwori concluded his address by stressing the importance of delivering high-quality projects and services to the people, stating, “I will only inaugurate projects that are of the highest standard and quality because the people deserve the best.”

Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads), Mr. Charles Aniagwu, commended the governor for his dedication to road projects and praised the contractor for a job well done.

Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Nyerhovwo Tonukari, highlighted the university’s role in industrialization and socio-economic development, emphasizing the institution’s vision for technological innovations, skills training, and groundbreaking research.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Jacob Oboreh, expressed gratitude for the governor’s support and alignment with the Governor’s M.O.R.E Agenda, a holistic roadmap for the advancement of Delta State. The inauguration of the projects marked a significant milestone for the institution as it continues its journey toward greatness.
