ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to leaving a lasting legacy for future generations, emphasizing that his focus is on serving God and not merely pleasing people.
Governor Oborevwori made this assertion on Wednesday while receiving the President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Wale Oke, and his delegation at the Government House in Asaba. He highlighted the significant strides his administration has made in infrastructure and human capital development across the state and expressed confidence in achieving even greater progress.
“We have done a lot, but it is still not easy because there is hunger,” Governor Oborevwori stated. “Throughout the period of protest, Delta State was peaceful because we were praying during the protest. I am here to serve the people. I want to do what I will be remembered for so that by the time I leave, they will say he has done this and that. I am not here to please man but God.”
The Governor also urged Bishop Oke and his team to pray for lasting peace in Delta State, underscoring the critical role peace plays in fostering development. He praised the PFN President and the church for their prayers and support during his election, attributing the peaceful atmosphere in the state during protests to their spiritual intercession.
“As the PFN President, you stand in the position of a father to us in Nigeria, and we know your capacity as a prayer warrior,” Oborevwori remarked. “As it is today, we need prayers so that we can succeed, especially those of us in authority. Your prayers will always guide and order our steps to do what is right at all times.”
Governor Oborevwori reflected on the challenges he faced during his election campaign, noting that despite numerous court cases, divine intervention ensured his victory. He called for continued prayers for security, progress, and stability in Delta State and the nation.
In his earlier remarks, Bishop Wale Oke expressed gratitude to the Delta State government for its support of the PFN and commended the Governor’s developmental achievements. He noted that they were in the state to dedicate the newly completed Delta PFN secretariat, which he described as the largest in the country, and to offer prayers for sustained peace and development in the state.
Bishop Oke also paid tribute to Governor Oborevwori for his significant contributions to the realization of the PFN secretariat, affirming the church’s continued prayers and support for his administration.
