Governor Oborevwori to Lead the Fight Against Drug Abuse at Orerokpe

ASABA/Nigeria: The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, will officially conclude the first phase of the state’s “Drug Free Delta” campaign on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, with a grand finale themed “Yes To Life, No To Drug Abuse.”

The event, which promises to be a significant moment in the fight against drug abuse, will take place at the Royal Palace Hall in Orerokpe, Okpe Local Government Area, beginning at 10:00 am.

A statement issued by Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe Esq., the Director General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, revealed that approximately 200 students from seven secondary schools have been selected to participate in the grand finale.

These students will engage with narcotic officers from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), led by State Commandant Commander Abubakar Wada Esq., alongside other key stakeholders in a session aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.

The first phase of the “Drug Free Delta” campaign, which has reached 28 secondary schools across the state’s three senatorial districts, featured the formation of WADA Clubs (War Against Drug Abuse) in schools. Through activities such as quiz competitions, essay writing, and drama performances, students have been at the forefront of spreading the anti-drug message in their communities.

The grand finale event will be graced by several dignitaries, including the Honourable Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, the Member representing Okpe State Constituency, Hon. James Augoye, and the Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Majesty, Orhue I. Additionally, high-profile figures such as Major-General Felix Mujakperuo (CFR, mni, Rtd), Chairman of the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council, and former Federal Minister of Information, Prof. Sam Oyovbaire, will be in attendance.

Also expected are key government officials including the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, Honourable Commissioners for Health and Education, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme and Mrs. Rose Ezewu, respectively, and other political and traditional leaders from across the state.

Dr. Oghenesivbe urged all invited guests and officials to be seated by 9:45 am to ensure a timely start to the important event.
