Governor Oborevwori Unfairly Targeted Over Assembly’s Independent Actions, Says Aide

ASABA/Nigeria: Dr. Latimore Oghenesivbe, Executive Assistant on Communications to Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reiterated that the Delta State House of Assembly operates independently from the executive branch.

Speaking on a public affairs radio show in Asaba on Tuesday, Oghenesivbe addressed allegations surrounding the recent suspension of Honourable Mathew Omonade, representative of Ughelli North State Constituency 1.

He emphasized that the governor and the state government had no involvement in the suspension, refuting claims made by a self-proclaimed political commentator and circulated on social media. He pointed the importance of the principles of separation of powers enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution, which mandates distinct and independent operations of the legislative, executive, and judiciary branches.

“The mischievous claims by a certain political commentator hold no water,” Oghenesivbe said. “Governor Oborevwori and his administration do not, and will not, interfere in the internal affairs of the legislature or the judiciary. We remain committed to collaboration within acceptable boundaries to ensure good governance, uphold the rule of law, and promote equity.”

Oghenesivbe, also the Chief Executive Officer of Delta State Orientation Bureau, called on the public to dismiss the unfounded allegations linking Governor Oborevwori to Omonade’s suspension. He described the commentator as a known controversial figure aligned with the state’s major opposition party.

“Governor Oborevwori, a staunch democrat, strictly adheres to the principles of separation of powers. He respects the independence of the legislative and judiciary branches and will never interfere with their functions,” Oghenesivbe asserted. “The accusations are not only false but also malicious and should be disregarded.”

“Honourable Mathew Omonade is well-versed in the House’s rules and operations, unlike the ill-informed commentator who has no standing in this matter,” he added.

“The executive branch, led by Governor Oborevwori, is working harmoniously with the other arms of government to drive development in the state. No amount of propaganda or misinformation can derail the progress under his visionary leadership.”
