ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on Nigerians to reflect on the true spirit of Christmas, emphasizing love, kindness, and generosity as the hallmarks of the season.
The governor’s message was delivered by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, during the Delta State Interdenominational Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols held at the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Ecumenical Center in Asaba.
Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed his commitment to the M.O.R.E Agenda of his administration, pledging to continue working towards making Delta State a beacon of hope and prosperity.
“As we gather to sing carols and rejoice, let us remember the true spirit of Christmas,” he said. “Let us reflect on the values of love, kindness, and generosity that this season represents. I urge all Deltans to extend a hand of kindness to those around them, particularly the less privileged, the vulnerable, and those in need. Together, we can build a society that is just, equitable, and peaceful.”
He also expressed gratitude to the organizers and traditional rulers for their unwavering support of his administration, highlighting the importance of collective efforts in driving progress.
The governor took the first lesson, titled The Fall of Man, from Genesis 3:8-19, while the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, read the second lesson from Genesis 22:15-18.
In his sermon, Rev. Dr. Paul Anyasi reflected on the significance of Christmas as a fulfillment of God’s promise to humanity. “God is a promise keeper,” he said, emphasizing that His promises are always fulfilled at the right time, often through unexpected means.
The carol night also included prayers for the state and the nation, as well as musical performances celebrating the season. Attendees joined in songs of praise, expressing hope for a brighter future under the state’s leadership.
