ABUJA/Nigeria: The Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has witnessed a remarkable surge in popularity, attributed to his exceptional performance within his first year in office.
Dr. Latimore Oghenesivbe, the Chief Executive Officer of Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, highlighted this during the presentation of an Award of Excellence to him by the Association of Urhobo Sons and Daughters in Federal Civil Service of the Federation Abuja. Dr. Oghenesivbe assured that the Oborevwori administration would continue to roll out major infrastructure and socio-economic development projects.
Governor Oborevwori’s tenure began with a bang, marked by the award of a staggering N78 billion contract to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc for the construction of three mega flyovers and pedestrian bridges at key junctions: DSC Roundabout, PTI junction, Effurun Roundabout, and Enerhen junction up to Marine Gate.
The Bureau Chief also pointed to the construction of flyovers, underground water tunnels in Delta North, Delta Central, and Delta South Senatorial Districts, alongside ongoing road rehabilitation and construction projects by local contractors and Obakpor Engineering Ltd, as pivotal in earning the governor widespread admiration among Deltans.
Further achievements in education, health, and agriculture, coupled with financial support for small and medium businesses, have significantly boosted Governor Oborevwori’s leadership profile. Dr. Oghenesivbe emphasized that these accomplishments are merely the beginning, with even greater successes anticipated.
“The landslide victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the recent Local Government Council Elections underscores the governor’s excellent performance. The MORE Agenda is resonating with all Deltans, and the governor is driven to achieve even more,” Oghenesivbe stated.
He noted that all chairmanship and councillorship candidates who aligned with the MORE Agenda were victorious at the polls. These officials have since been sworn in to implement the MORE Agenda across Delta’s 25 local government areas, reflecting widespread support for the governor’s vision.
Dr. Oghenesivbe praised Governor Oborevwori’s inclusive approach, highlighting his strong connections with the Urhobo ethnic nationality and his broad support across all ethnic groups in the state. This inclusivity and respect for all communities have further solidified his standing as a governor for all Deltans.
In accepting the Award of Excellence, Dr. Oghenesivbe expressed gratitude to the Association of Urhobo Sons and Daughters in Federal Civil Service of the Federation Abuja (AUSDA). He vowed to continue his hard work in implementing the government’s MORE Agenda as the Executive Assistant on Communications to Governor Oborevwori and as Head of the State Orientation Bureau.
Earlier, Mrs. Voke Alimatu Okolakpa, National President of Urhobo Sons and Daughters in Federal Civil Service of the Federation Abuja, commended the governor’s achievements and expressed pride in his accomplishments within a year. She hinted that association members might soon transfer their voter registrations to Delta State to support Governor Oborevwori’s re-election in 2027.
Mrs. Okolakpa also lauded Dr. Oghenesivbe for his unmatched strategic communication skills and his vital role during the 2023 general elections. She urged him to continue his dedicated service to the governor’s administration and the people of Delta State.
The award ceremony, held at the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau headquarters in Asaba, was attended by notable officials including Mrs. Kate Olika, Director of Administration; Mr. Ngozi Uwaje, Director of Finance and Accounts; and Pastor Omonigho Okotie, Assistant Chief Information Officer.
