Governor Oborrevwori Faces Pressure from Warri Residents to Prioritize PTI and Effurun Clean Up Within First Hundred Days

EFFURUN/Nigeria: Residents of the twin cities of Warri and Effurun have urgently appealed to the Governor of Delta State to prioritize the cleanup of Effurun Roundabout and the PTI junctions, both located in Uvwie Local Government Area. These areas serve as the main entrances to the cities but are currently in a deplorable state, plagued by accidents and poorly maintained motor parks.

The residents stated that their call is in alignment with the Governor’s commitment made during his inauguration as the Governor of Delta State. They believe it is crucial for the Governor to take action within the first 100 days of his administration to initiate the cleanup process. According to Mr. Chuks Agholo, a trader at the busy Jakpa Junction, the cleanup effort does not require significant resources as there are many unemployed individuals in Delta State who can be engaged to sweep the areas on a daily basis.

Mr. Ese Emovie emphasized that the need for cleanup extends beyond the dirty environment of the entrance areas. He highlighted the necessity of addressing security issues up to the DSC roundabout and improving the traffic situation in the vicinity. He suggested that the local population could be involved in the cleanup process, provided there is sufficient political will from the Governor. Mr. Ese also emphasized that the Governor, having grown up in the area, should leverage his familiarity and connections to commence immediate action. He also called for the effective utilization of DELSMA operatives deployed to the area to ensure smooth traffic flow.

Mrs. Ogaga Josephine, another respondent, expressed her disappointment that Governor Oborevwori has not yet initiated the cleanup, particularly since his private residence is located in the affected area. She stated her expectation that the cleanup should have begun promptly, considering the Governor’s firsthand knowledge of the challenges faced by the people and the unclean conditions of the area. Mrs. Josephine urged the Governor to commence the cleanup without further delay, making it a part of his first 100 days in office.

Many other residents and commuters echoed the same sentiments, emphasizing the need to start the cleanup of Warri and its surrounding areas from the entrance points. They believe that the cleanliness of these areas reflects the identity of the town to visitors and those traveling through the region to other states in the South-South and West of the country.
