UGHELLI/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Thursday, paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Executive Director, Projects at the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Olorogun Taleb Tebite, praising him as a selfless leader who often put the needs of others before his own.
Speaking during the funeral service at All Saints’ Anglican Cathedral, Otor-Iwhreko, Ughelli, in the Ughelli North Local Government Area, Governor Oborevwori noted that the large crowd in attendance was a testament to Tebite’s generosity and the positive impact he had on those around him.
He urged the grieving family to find comfort in the knowledge that their father lived a life of meaningful service to both God and humanity, highlighting the late Tebite’s numerous achievements.
“The church is overflowing today because a man loved by the people has passed away,” said Governor Oborevwori. “People may celebrate the passing of some, but what matters most is what you will be remembered for—the good deeds you’ve done. Today, we celebrate the life of a truly remarkable man, a dedicated politician, a servant leader, and a beloved brother, Olorogun Taleb Tebite.”
Reflecting on their personal relationship, Governor Oborevwori described Tebite as a political associate and a close friend, whose courage and generosity were evident throughout his career and personal life.
“Taleb was selfless, always willing to give, even if it meant going out of his way to help others. He was a man you could count on, a true friend with an unwavering commitment to serving others,” the governor remarked. “His death is not just a loss for his family, but for all of us who knew and loved him.”
Governor Oborevwori urged everyone present to reflect on their own lives, asking, “What will we be remembered for? Are we doing the right thing?” He called on friends and associates to offer continued prayers and support to Tebite’s family, noting that his legacy of kindness and generosity would continue to inspire those he left behind.
“As we bid farewell to our dear brother Taleb, we pray that God grants his family the strength to endure this loss and take solace in knowing that he lived a life filled with love and purpose. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” he concluded.
In his sermon, the Archbishop of Bendel Province, Anglican Communion, Most Rev’d Cyril Odutemu, echoed these sentiments, describing Tebite as a man who dedicated his life to serving others. He urged Christians to live righteously and follow the ways of the Lord in preparation for the day of judgement.
Archbishop Odutemu also criticised some of the Federal Government’s economic policies, expressing concern over the hardships they have imposed on the people. He described any policy that causes undue suffering as “anti-people.”
Olorogun Taleb Tebite, who passed away at the age of 64, hailed from Okpare-Olomu in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State. His legacy of selflessness and service will be remembered by those who knew him, as well as the countless lives he touched throughout his life.
