Governor Sheriff Oborevwori Wins THISDAY/ARISE Governor of the Year Award

LAGOS/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, was honored on Monday night as the “Governor of the Year, 2024” by THISDAY Newspaper and ARISE Television for his exceptional fiscal discipline and transformative infrastructural strides in the state.

Announcing the award during a grand ceremony at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Founder of THISDAY and ARISE Media Group, lauded Governor Oborevwori’s impressive leadership. “Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State was underrated, but in his 18 months in power, he has not borrowed a single cent from any bank and continues to build infrastructure across the state,” Obaigbena remarked.

The award was presented by former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, who praised Oborevwori as a visionary achiever with significant accomplishments.

In his acceptance speech, Governor Oborevwori dedicated the award to God and the people of Delta State, acknowledging their unwavering support. He emphasized that the recognition would motivate him to redouble his efforts under the MORE Agenda to advance the state.

“This award is a recognition of our modest efforts in advancing Delta through our MORE Agenda. I dedicate it to God Almighty and to the good people of Delta State. Once more, congratulations to THISDAY/ARISE Media Group on their anniversaries,” Oborevwori said.

Sharing his vision for the future, Governor Oborevwori reiterated his commitment to grassroots development and comprehensive state-building. “As a man with street credibility, we are in touch with the grassroots. While building infrastructure, we are also building the capacity of our people. You may have infrastructure, but if the people are hungry, the development is incomplete. We are investing in agriculture and other critical sectors to foster sustainable growth,” he stated.

As the year 2025 approaches, Oborevwori pledged to intensify efforts in fostering peace and advancing Delta State’s economic resilience. The governor’s recognition, alongside fellow awardees Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Umo Eno, and Uba Sani, underscores the impactful leadership being celebrated across Nigeria.
