Governor Urges Harmony Between Traditional Rulers and Subjects

ASABA/Nigeria: In a significant ceremony on Thursday, the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, emphasized the critical need for mutual understanding between traditional leaders and their subjects.
The occasion, marked by the presentation of the Staff of Office to HRM Clement O. Ikolo, the Urhukpe I, the Ovie of Ewu-Urhobo Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area, underscored the governor’s reliance on the traditional institution as a conduit to connect with the populace.
Represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, Governor Oborevwori articulated the imperative of upholding the sanctity of the revered office held by these traditional rulers. He implored them to steer their communities towards prosperity within an atmosphere characterized by peace, empathy, comprehension, and reciprocal respect between the throne and the people.
“Your Royal Majesty, I appeal to you to enhance the dignity of your esteemed position by guiding your people towards greater well-being in an environment marked by tranquility, affection, comprehension, and mutual regard between the throne and the populace,” expressed Governor Oborevwori.
He further urged the traditional rulers to maintain an open and approachable stance, upholding values of justice, impartiality, and fairness in all interactions with their subjects. Emphasizing the importance of prioritizing the interests of the majority and adhering to principles of righteousness in decision-making, the governor stressed the pivotal role of the traditional institution in governance and societal cohesion.
“The government will persist in relying on the leadership role of the traditional institution as a pivotal means of engaging with the populace,” Governor Oborevwori reiterated. He underscored the priceless nature of the traditional institution in African societies, affirming the government’s commitment to regarding it as a dependable ally in social, economic, and cultural spheres.
The governor urged the traditional rulers to foster open communication, dialogue, and consultation across all segments of their domains, acknowledging their genuine acceptance by the people and encouraging reciprocal appreciation of this sentiment.
Expressing felicitations on behalf of the government and people of Delta State, Governor Oborevwori commended HRM Clement O. Ikolo for the tranquility that marked his ascension to the royal stool and extended gratitude to the people of Ewu-Urhobo for their cooperation and contributions.
Hon. Richard Kofi, Chairman of the Ughelli South Local Government Council, echoed support for Governor Oborevwori’s MORE agenda, assuring the people of Ewu Kingdom of the council’s unwavering commitment. He pledged to sustain the legacy of cooperation and trust inherited from ancestors while striving to enhance the kingdom’s enviable attributes of peace, tranquility, and cooperation.
