Governor Urges NDDC to Complete Ongoing Projects for Regional Growth

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to expedite the completion of all ongoing and abandoned projects in the region, emphasizing their critical role in fostering urban-rural integration, creating jobs, and driving economic growth.

Speaking at the 6th Meeting of the National Council of Niger Delta (NCND) in Asaba, themed “Stimulating Strategies For Economic Growth and Development in the Niger Delta Region,” Governor Oborevwori highlighted the forum’s significance as a platform for addressing common challenges and fostering regional prosperity through collaboration.

He stressed the need for economic diversification and welcomed ideas to enhance agricultural economies and invest in social and economic infrastructure. Governor Oborevwori emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships for industrialization and urged the meeting to develop a blueprint for effective collaboration.

The Governor also addressed the pressing issues of poverty, unemployment, and youth restiveness in the region, calling for urgent interventions to engage the youth productively. He highlighted Delta State’s efforts in equipping youths with skills for employment and entrepreneurship.

President Bola Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, echoed the Council’s focus on development in line with his administration’s renewed hope agenda. He assured the region of a holistic plan for its development, urging patience from the people.

Chairman of the Progressives Governor’s Forum and Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, called for an ideological conversation on the region’s development and urged the NDDC to convene a meeting of the nine Niger Delta governors to discuss the way forward.

Minister of Niger Delta Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, thanked Governor Oborevwori for hosting the meeting and reiterated the Council’s commitment to improving infrastructure and human capital development in the region, aligning with President Tinubu’s agenda.

In response to Governor Oborevwori’s plea, the Minister assured that the Ministry would collaborate with the NDDC to complete all ongoing and abandoned projects in the Niger Delta region, emphasizing their commitment to the region’s development.
