Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori

ASABA/Nigeria: The Ibori Golf and Country Club (IGCC), Asaba, has unveiled plans for the inaugural Governor’s Cup Invitational Golf Tournament in honour of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, who turns 62 on June 19.

Club Captain, Chief Patrick Ukah, announced in a statement on Monday that the prestigious week-long event will feature over 300 participants, including top professionals, amateur golfers, and VIPs from across Nigeria and beyond.

Set for June 23 to June 28 at the Ibori Golf and Country Club, the tournament will open with the Caddy Tournament, followed by a two-day Pros Event on June 25 and 26, where elite golfers will battle for N3 million in prize money. The grand finale on June 28 will see 80 finalists and VIP guests vie for top honours, culminating in a dinner and prize presentation that evening.

Chief Ukah, who also heads the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, said the Governor’s Cup celebrates both Oborevwori’s birthday and 33 years of peaceful coexistence among Delta’s diverse ethnic groups, using golf as a tool to promote unity, sportsmanship, and excellence.

He stressed that the event builds on the momentum of the club’s recent Captain’s Day Tournament and the second anniversary of Oborevwori’s administration, further positioning Delta as a tourism and investment hub.

Ukah thanked corporate sponsors and partners for their support, describing the Governor’s Cup as a symbol of leadership, unity, and progress under Oborevwori’s watch.
