OZORO/Nigeria: In a bold demonstration of his commitment to grassroots sports development, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on New Media, Comrade (Dr.) Palmer Ogheneyole Nathaniel, has donated several table tennis boards to communities across Isoko Nation.
Palmer, popularly known as the Black Prince of Isoko Nation, is the convener and chief organizer of the Isoko Nation Unity Table Tennis Tournament, an annual sporting event designed to discover young talents in table tennis while fostering unity and recreation among youths in Isoko.
The donations come ahead of the second edition of the tournament scheduled to hold on November 7, 2025, at the Isoko Youth House in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Speaking during the presentation in Emevor, Owhelogbo, and Oleh, Dr. Palmer said the gesture aligns with his vision of using sports as a platform to promote peace, unity, and progress in Isoko Nation. He noted that such facilities would help nurture budding talents while also engaging young people meaningfully to deter them from social vices.
“I am giving these sets of table tennis boards, balls, and bats to you for your regular training ahead of our tournament coming up in November, and also for your usual recreation exercise,” Palmer stated.
He further added, “This initiative is beyond just a tournament; it is about giving our youths access to the tools they need to develop their skills and master the game of table tennis, which I am very passionate about. My determination is that the bond of friendship and brotherhood created from these sporting interactions will translate to stronger unity among the youths of our various clans.”
Community leaders and youths who received the boards praised Dr. Palmer for his foresight and dedication, describing him as a true son of Isoko committed to the growth and well-being of his people. They also expressed appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for appointing patriotic sons of Isoko such as Palmer into his administration.
The Isoko Nation Unity Table Tennis Tournament, which was inaugurated in honour of Governor Oborevwori, held its maiden edition last year. The tournament has quickly grown into a rallying point for sports lovers in Isoko, with the first edition awarding one million naira to the winner, while the second and third prize winners received five hundred thousand and three hundred thousand naira respectively.
The event has become more than a competition, serving as a platform for talent discovery and an avenue for building camaraderie among the Isoko people.
