ASABA/Nigeria: Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has attributed the peace, stability and legislative achievements recorded by the 8th Assembly in its first three years to the faithfulness, mercy and unfailing love of God.
Speaking during a thanksgiving service held on Sunday at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Region 34 Headquarters, Asaba, to commemorate the third anniversary of the 8th Assembly, Guwor said the legislature had every reason to return thanks to God for sustaining members since its inauguration on June 13, 2023.
Quoting Psalm 124:1-2, the Speaker declared, “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, we would not be celebrating this milestone today,” noting that God had continued to grant members wisdom, unity, good health and uncommon grace in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
According to him, the Assembly has enjoyed remarkable peace, stability and cooperation among lawmakers, factors he said had translated into purposeful legislation and effective oversight functions in the interest of the state.
He stated that through God’s grace, the House had considered and passed several bills and resolutions aimed at strengthening good governance, stimulating economic growth, advancing social development and improving the welfare of the people of Delta State.
Guwor, who is also the Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, commended the cordial working relationship among the three arms of government in the state, describing the synergy between the Legislature, Executive and Judiciary as a major contributor to the progress and stability being enjoyed in Delta State.
The Speaker particularly expressed appreciation to Governor Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori for his unwavering support to the legislature and commitment to the development of the state.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, members of the State Executive Council and the Chief Judge of Delta State for sustaining healthy inter-governmental relations.
Guwor further praised members of the 8th Assembly for their dedication, maturity and collective resolve in advancing the legislative agenda of the House while upholding the confidence reposed in them by their constituents.
He thanked the people of Delta State for their continued trust and support, assuring them that the Assembly would remain committed to quality representation, responsive lawmaking and effective oversight.
The Speaker also appreciated the officiating minister, Pastor John Oyomah of RCCG Region 34, for what he described as an inspiring, thought-provoking and spirit-filled sermon that reminded lawmakers of their responsibility as custodians of public trust.
Looking ahead to the final year of the Assembly’s tenure, Guwor said members would continue to seek divine guidance in the discharge of their duties.
Citing Proverbs 3:5-6, he said the House had rededicated itself to the ideals of integrity, accountability, transparency and selfless service to the people.
“As we offer thanksgiving unto God, may He continue to bless Delta State, grant wisdom to our leaders, preserve the peace and unity of our state, and prosper the works of our hands,” the Speaker prayed.
The thanksgiving service attracted an array of distinguished personalities, including Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his wife, Tobore; wife of the Deputy Governor, Dame Catherine Onyeme; former Governor Chief James Ibori; immediate past Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa; former Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro; members of the National Assembly; state lawmakers; senior government officials; traditional rulers; political leaders and constituents from the 29 state constituencies.
