Guwor Backs Reform Agenda at National Assembly Needs Assessment Meeting

ABUJA/Nigeria: The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has thrown his weight behind ongoing reform efforts to strengthen State Legislatures across the country, describing them as vital to deepening good governance and national development.

Guwor, who also serves as the National Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, gave his support during a consultative and validation meeting on the needs assessment report of State Assemblies, held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

The meeting, themed “Promoting Good Governance and Citizens Access,” was organized by the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) in partnership with the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, and featured presentations, plenary discussions, and goodwill messages, including that of the Chairman of the Conference of Speakers, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin of Oyo State.

Speaking at the session, Guwor commended the initiative, stressing that the forum provided a unique opportunity to reflect on key findings from the assessment conducted across the 36 State Houses of Assembly. He noted that the engagement underscored the importance of stakeholders’ contributions and commitment to improving the capacity and effectiveness of the legislature in Nigeria.

He reaffirmed that strengthening the institutional performance of State Houses of Assembly remains a priority for sustainable governance and urged all actors to remain resolute in driving legislative reforms that respond to the needs of citizens.
