OGBE-IJOH/Nigeria: The political momentum ahead of the next electoral cycle gathered fresh intensity in Warri South-West on Monday as the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, formally declared his intention to seek reelection, drawing massive endorsement from political stakeholders, youth groups, women leaders and community representatives across the constituency.
The declaration, made shortly after the Speaker obtained his nomination and expression of interest forms, transformed Ogbe-Ijoh, headquarters of Warri South-West Local Government Area, into a convergence of political solidarity, as supporters described his return bid as a strategic move to sustain the constituency’s growing influence within Delta State and the national legislative landscape.
The development effectively ends months of speculation surrounding Guwor’s political future, following persistent calls from constituents and party stakeholders urging him to continue what many described as a transformative era of representation for the riverine constituency.
At 47, the lawmaker has emerged as one of the most visible political figures from the coastal axis of the state, with supporters crediting his rise from member of the 7th Assembly to Speaker of the 8th Assembly as a reflection of political stability, legislative competence and grassroots connection.
Observers within the constituency say Guwor’s appeal extends beyond partisan politics, pointing to what they described as a rare blend of accessibility, institutional influence and constituency-focused interventions that have significantly altered the developmental narrative of Warri South-West.
His tenure has been associated with educational advancement through scholarship schemes, renovation of learning facilities and the distribution of instructional materials to schools across the difficult riverine terrain.
More than 500 students from the constituency are said to have benefited from tertiary education scholarships facilitated under his leadership, while several schools reportedly received classroom furniture, textbooks and other academic support materials.
In the health sector, the Speaker’s office has sustained quarterly medical outreach programmes covering the ten wards of the constituency, alongside support for primary healthcare facilities through the provision of medical equipment, drugs and operational assistance.
His empowerment initiatives have equally attracted attention among youths and women groups. Hundreds of young people have reportedly undergone vocational and ICT training programmes in areas such as welding, fish farming, fashion design and digital skills acquisition, with many beneficiaries receiving starter packs and business support grants.
Women groups within the constituency have also acknowledged ongoing support for cooperative societies and community-based economic programmes aimed at improving livelihoods in the creeks and riverine communities.

One stakeholder at the meeting said the constituency had, for the first time in years, secured a ranking legislator whose national influence directly translates into development opportunities for the area.
Traditional institutions have equally voiced support for the Speaker’s continued stay in office. Oboro Gbaraun II, Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, was quoted as saying that Guwor’s position as Speaker had brought both visibility and development to Warri South-West.
Women leaders at the event also highlighted improvements in healthcare accessibility through medical outreach initiatives, noting that several riverine communities now enjoy better healthcare interventions compared to previous years.
Others described the Speaker as a stabilising figure whose investments in education, empowerment and peace-building initiatives have contributed to reducing youth restiveness across parts of the constituency.
Political analysts believe the reelection bid carries implications beyond Warri South-West, arguing that Guwor represents continuity, legislative experience and strategic influence capable of attracting broader state and federal engagements.
Speaking through a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, the Speaker said his political journey has always remained rooted in the trust and support of the people of Warri South-West.
According to him, the progress already recorded in legislation, infrastructure and human capital development requires consolidation through continuity and experienced leadership.
Guwor maintained that the constituency still needs a strong and experienced voice within the corridors where critical state and national decisions are made, assuring supporters that he remains committed to advancing the collective interest of the people.
As the stakeholders’ meeting drew to a close, one elder captured the prevailing sentiment among supporters, declaring that the constituency was not prepared to abandon a leadership structure many believe is already yielding visible results.
