ASABA/Nigeria: Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has commended the resilience, strength and determination of Nigerian women in advancing global peace and development as they join the rest of the world to celebrate the 2026 International Women’s Day.

Guwor, who is also the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, gave the commendation in a statement made available to journalists by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke. He congratulated Nigerian women on the occasion, noting that they have continued to demonstrate exceptional commitment to the promotion of peace, stability and sustainable development in Nigeria and across the globe.

The Conference of Speakers chairman acknowledged the invaluable contributions of women in peacebuilding, conflict resolution and community development, stressing that their dedication and leadership have continued to shape the narrative of progress and prosperity in the country.

“We celebrate the incredible contributions women make to our societies, communities and families. Your tireless efforts in shaping the future of our nation and the world are invaluable,” Guwor stated.

Felicitating with mothers and women across the country on the global celebration, the Delta Assembly Speaker urged them to remain steadfast as agents of positive change by promoting unity, tolerance and mutual understanding within their communities.

He emphasized that the role of women in shaping the future of the nation cannot be overstated, assuring that their efforts would continue to receive the support of legislative institutions across the country.

Guwor further reaffirmed the commitment of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures to policies and programmes that promote gender equality, women’s empowerment and inclusive development.

He described the theme for this year’s celebration, “Rights, Justice, Action, For All Women and Girls,” with the campaign slogan “Give to Gain,” as timely and relevant, noting that it highlights the need for structural accountability, closing justice gaps and defending the rights of women while advancing gender equality.

“As we celebrate the achievements of women today, let us also acknowledge the challenges that still exist and reaffirm our commitment to creating a more just and equitable society for all,” he said.

He further called for collective action to address persistent challenges confronting women, including gender-based violence, inequality and discrimination, while ensuring equal opportunities for women to contribute meaningfully to national development.

“I urge you to keep pushing boundaries, break barriers and strive for excellence. Your role in shaping the future is crucial,” Guwor added.
