
ASABA/Nigeria: The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has announced plans for a special interactive session between current lawmakers and former members of the State Assembly, described as Non-Sitting Members of the House.
Rt. Hon. Guwor made the announcement during Tuesday’s plenary at the Assembly Complex in Asaba, stating that the event will take place from Wednesday, November 12 to Friday, November 14, 2025, in the state capital.
Expected at the historic legislative parley are the Governor of Delta State and former Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, alongside other former Speakers, including Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Okoro, Rt. Hon. Kent Omatsone, Rt. Hon. Martins Okonta, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya, Rt. Hon. Basil Ganagana, Rt. Hon. Frank Enekorogha, Rt. Hon. Peter Onwusanya, and Rt. Hon. Olise Imegwu.
To ensure effective coordination, the Speaker constituted a five-man committee headed by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo. Other members of the committee include Hon. Austin Uroye, Hon. Perkins Umukoro, Hon. Festus Utuama, and Hon. Bridget Anyafulu, while the Deputy Clerk (Administration), Mr. Smart Edoge, will serve as Secretary.
Reacting to the development, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke, described the forthcoming event as “a visionary and unprecedented initiative” that underscores Rt. Hon. Guwor’s commitment to fostering collaboration, institutional memory, and legislative growth in Delta State.
“The Speaker’s visionary leadership is evident in initiating this special session with former members of the House. This gesture underscores his commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive legislative environment,” Nwaeke said.
He noted that the special session will provide a unique platform to harness the experience, insights, and institutional knowledge of former lawmakers toward strengthening the legislature and enhancing good governance.
According to him, “Mr. Speaker has always demonstrated his dedication to bridging the gap between all stakeholders in the state legislature, ensuring continuity and progress in governance. It is anticipated that this collaboration with former members will yield innovative ideas, informed policy directions, and ultimately contribute to the socio-economic growth and prosperity of Delta State.”
The session, described by insiders as the first of its kind in the state’s legislative history, is expected to deepen the spirit of unity, institutional continuity, and shared purpose among lawmakers past and present.
