ASABA/Nigeria: Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has appealed to the Ijaw ethnic nationality in Delta State to continue supporting the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, whom he described as deeply committed to fulfilling the promises of his MORE Agenda for all Deltans.
Rt. Hon. Guwor made the appeal on Wednesday when he received the leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Western Zone, led by its Chairman, Comrade Nicholas Igaramar, during a courtesy visit to his office in Asaba.
Welcoming the delegation, the Speaker commended Governor Oborevwori for his inclusive leadership and development-oriented governance, which he said has positively impacted both riverine and upland communities across the state.
Flanked by his colleagues of Ijaw extraction in the House, Hon. Oboro Preyor, Hon. Emmanuel Sinebe, Hon. Pereotu Oloye, and Hon. Ebitonmo Alapala, Guwor noted that the current administration has intensified infrastructural development in Ijaw areas through massive road construction, bridge projects, and other community-driven initiatives.
“The level of concentration in Ijaw nation has increased under Governor Oborevwori’s administration,” the Speaker said. “The last administration did well, but the Ijaw people are seeing even greater attention and progress under the present dispensation.”
Guwor assured that as representatives of the people, members of the Assembly would continue to champion the interests of their constituents and maintain strong legislative collaboration with the executive arm to sustain the current pace of development.
He urged the Ijaw Youth Council and other Ijaw leaders to remain partners in promoting peace, unity, and constructive engagement with the government, stressing that the Oborevwori administration has demonstrated genuine commitment to the welfare and advancement of the Ijaw people.
“I want to appeal to you to always reach out to us before going to the press so that your concerns can be addressed through dialogue,” Guwor advised. “Don’t only point out faults, also appreciate positive developments. Commending good governance encourages government to do more.”
The Speaker further assured the delegation of the Assembly’s continuous advocacy for youth inclusion and empowerment, emphasizing that while the legislature is not a revenue-generating body, it would keep using its influence to attract developmental programs and opportunities for young people across the state.
Earlier, Comrade Nicholas Igaramar praised Governor Oborevwori for his developmental strides in Ijaw communities but appealed for more attention to human capital development and infrastructure, especially the completion of the Ayakoromo Bridge and other ongoing projects in the area.
He also called for greater institutional recognition of the Ijaw Youth Council, noting that the group’s peaceful disposition and commitment to progress should be acknowledged and supported by the state government and relevant agencies.
The IYC Chairman commended Ijaw lawmakers in the Delta State House of Assembly for their effective representation and urged them to remain steadfast in supporting youth-focused policies.
He further explained that the IYC Western Zone covers Delta, Bayelsa, and Ondo States, and applauded Rt. Hon. Guwor for his outstanding leadership as Speaker of the Delta State Legislature.
The visit ended with the presentation of a souvenir to Comrade Igaramar by Rt. Hon. Guwor in appreciation of the Council’s visit and continued partnership for peace and development in Delta State.
