Hausa-Fulani Herdsmen Invasion: Obiaruku Women Protests

The women of Obiaruku led by the oldest woman in the community, has protested the continuous invasion of their farm land by the Hausa-Fulani herdsmen. Report reaching Ndokwa Reporters says the protest became necessary as the herdsmen had become aggressive towards the community members as they constantly graze on their farm land with impunity.

According to our correspondence in the area, this is not the first time such demonstration is carried out. The first was about two years ago, when the chiefs of the town were accused of collecting money from the herdsmen. Then, some names were mentioned but this time the main accusation is that the herdsmen are not only crazing in their farm lands, but are becoming aggressive and threatening the farmers with all different kind of dangerous weapons.

The protest which was carried out throughout the major streets in Obiaruku started from the Ada’s compound with the women chanting war songs. In an interview with the Onotu-Uku of Obiaruku, Onotu-Uku G. Ajede confirmed the incident. Our correspondent in Obiaruku was also informed that the incident took place around the railway line.

According to a woman protester, the people are calling on the authourity to look into the matter and safe the lives of the Obiaruku people and stop the destruction of their crops because confronting them had become dangerous, as the herdsmen go about carrying dangerous arms like swords and AK-47 rifles which they use to threaten the farms and their children.
