LAGOS/Nigeria: During the Children’s Day celebration at the Special Correctional Centre for Boys, the Headfort Foundation for Justice emphasized the importance of steering clear of criminal activities. The event was marked by heartfelt counseling sessions aimed at guiding the children toward a brighter future.
Mrs. Oriyomi Orija, the Executive Director of the foundation, highlighted that their visit was intended to bring joy, happiness, and love to the children who are currently separated from their families. Represented by the foundation’s Legal Head, Amosun Mauyon, Orija reiterated the necessity for children to avoid crime, as it significantly impedes their ability to reach their life goals.
“We are here to spread joy and to remind these children that they can still achieve their dreams despite their current circumstances,” Mauyon conveyed on behalf of Orija.
Additionally, Orija expressed gratitude to the Lagos Food Bank and Arogi Trauma Care Foundation for their collaboration, which made the celebration a success. Adedeji Odusanya, a Clinical Psychologist from Arogi Trauma Care Foundation, provided crucial advice to the children, urging them to navigate adolescence cautiously. He acknowledged the temptations and pressures they face and encouraged them to understand their developmental stage and manage their emotions effectively. Odusanya also suggested using the internet as a tool for education about adolescence.
Amaka Okechukwu Opara, an Economist, underscored the significance of showing kindness to children on such a special day. She lauded the Headfort Foundation for organizing the event and encouraged the children to recognize their potential to make a positive impact on humanity. Opara advised them to focus on personal growth, service to others, and spiritual devotion.
The celebration concluded with the distribution of food and beverages to the children, leaving them with a sense of hope and community support.
