WARRI/Nigeria: In continuation of her familiarisation tour of some parastatals of the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary, the State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu has visited Warri, Ughelli, Oleh and Ozoro Centres of the Institute of Continuing Education.
Addressing the zonal heads of various centres separately, Mrs. Ezewu commended them and their staff for their modest contributions to the growth of the education sector in the state.
Mrs. Ezewu, who reiterated her determination to drive the education system in the state to enviable height, urged stakeholders to contribute meaningfully towards improving the standard of education in the state.
She assured them that the State Government would address their needs, adding that the State Governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa was irrevocably committed to leave behind an enduring legacy in the education sector.
In a related development, Mrs. Ezewu also visited Okene Primary School,Okuoko for the monitoring of the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE).
In their separate remarks, the head of Warri centre, Mrs. Odeimor Kena, head of Ughelli centre, Mr. Michael Atie and the head of Oleh centre, Mrs. Goru G. as well as their counterpart in Ozoro, Mr. Bernard Umuko described the commissioner’s visit as morale booster and worthy of commendation.
They said that their centres were in dire need of manpower, stressing that they were in short of staff to ease their operations even as they stated that Mrs. Ezewu was the first commissioner in recent time to visit their centres.
They also commended the Governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa for merging the Institute of Continuing Education with the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
Recall that the Secondary Education Commissioner was accompanied on the visit by the Acting Director of the Institute of Continuing Education, Mr. Edwin Chukwuma Onyema, the Secretary of the Institute, Mr. Obrutu Peter and Comr. Onoriode Isiaka who is the Public Relations of the Institute among others.
