To ensure that more Deltans enjoy the benefits of the Contributory Health Insurance Scheme of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration, the Delta State government is set to upgrade three health centres as training centres for health workers.
Chairman, Governing Council of School of Health Technology, Ofuoma-Ughelli (DESCOHTECH) Dr. (Pharm.) Nelson Ejakpovi made the disclosure recently when he led members of the Governing Council of DESCOHTECH, Dr Chris Oharisi and Mr. Sunny Tatauzugu accompanied by the Provost of the institution, Dr. (Mrs.) Agnes Olojoba on inspection tour of the Health Centres at Ekakprame, Ughelli South local government area and that of Emevor in Isoko North local government area, both in Delta State.
According to Dr Ejakpovi, “our Governor, being a Medical Doctor, is passionate about the health of Deltans, without good health, his prosperity agenda will not be successful, so, he introduced the Contributory Health Insurance Scheme so that all Deltans no matter their location can have access to quality and affordable health care delivery.”
“As a boost to the insurance scheme, the School of Health Technology, Ofuoma, will acquire two Health Centres to add to the one at Ekakprame for students to undergo quality practical training to face the challenges ahead, we are training middle man-power and the facilities at the health centres will be upgraded,” Dr Ejakpovi said, adding, “to step up the quality of services in the health sector, the Governor has appointed those who have what it takes to achieve desired goals, we will not compromise on the issue of standard facilities because, through the health insurance scheme, the cost of health-care delivery is going to be subsidized and our health facilities must be of required standards to enable us participate in the scheme.”
At Ekakprame, Dr Ejakpovi commended the matron and staff of the health centre for the proper usage of facilities at the centre.
He however, decried the non-availability of Laboratory for the proper diagnosis of illness, asserting, “Functional Laboratory is compulsory because, we send our students here, including trainee laboratory scientist and what will they achieve without a functional Laboratory?”
Matron of the Health Centre at Ekakprame, Mrs Efe Winifred called for the construction of more buildings to accommodate the facilities at the health centre.
At Emevor, Dr Ejakpovi disclosed that the health centres at Emevor and Owa-Alero in Ika North-East local government area of the state would be acquired and upgraded to serve as training centres for students of DESCOHTECH and also, give a boost to the contributory health insurance scheme.
He observed that the health centre at Emevor has good structure and only required necessary equipment to be put into use.
