Heavy Rainfall Wreaks Havoc In Sapele, Destroys Houses, Power Installation

SAPELE/Nigeria: Houses, electricity supply equipment and other structures were submerged in water after a heavy rainfall with a strong wind in Sapele, Delta State on Tuesday evening.

The rain which started at about 4:20 pm blew off roofs, fell electrical poles and pulled down other sheds and wooden stores within the Sapele metropolis. The worst hit areas include Urban Area, Oguanja, Gana, Ojolu, and Okirighwre among others.

Some of the victims who lamented that they lost their accommodation in the disaster which has now rendered them homeless with nowhere to turn to for help are calling on the state government, local government and other individuals to come to their aid.

Ejaife Atuyota is a resident of Okirighwre, whose building was submerged in water, said that the disaster had destroyed his house property while exposing his entire family to health hazard, calling for an immediate response from Sapele Local Government Area Chairman, Hon Eugene Inoaghan and other well-meaning Nigerians.

Another victim of the disaster, Mrs Comfort Ejaita of Urban Area, said that the rain destroyed part of the building and appealed for immediate intervention by the government.
