Herdsmen Killings: Group Calls on Benue State Govt to Corporate with FG

MARKUDI/Nigeria: The United Young Professionals has called on the Governor of Benue State to put aside politics and cooperate with the Federal Government especially the Nigeria Police Force to bring peace and stability to the entire communities of Benue State.

In a press release in Abuja on Wednesday by the National Coordinator of United Young Professionals, Adewole Kehinde, he said utterances from the Benue State Governor saying Benue People should defend themselves and calling the Inspector General of Police Miyetti Allah’s Mouthpiece is not healthy at this period of time for the good people of Benue State.

“We totally condemned the attack on Governor Samuel Ortom’s farm house by herdsmen on Monday but we also condemn the statement credited to Governor Ortom for calling for the people to defend themselves as two wrongs don’t make a right, Adewole said.

He further reiterated that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris will continue to enforce security and safety of the people of Benue State and Nigeria as a whole.

“We disagree with Governor Ortom that IGP Idris was playing politics with the unending killings in the state and becoming the mouthpiece of the murderers of Benue people. The IGP is not a politician seeking second term neither is he from Benue State to have warranted him to play politics with the killings in Benue State.

“We wish to remind Governor Ortom that the Army and not the Police, arrested the Livestock Guard members from Benue.

Adewole said it is on record that the Police have arrested 8 persons and charged them to court in Benue State of which the Governor is very aware of.

“We have watched the interview of the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ortom and Force Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent Jimoh Moshood and from all indications, the Force Spokesman never mentioned the name of Governor Ortom as drowning man as he was set with Terver Akase and not Samuel Ortom,  Adewole said.

“We call on Governor Samuel Ortom to do away with second term politics and cooperate with the Federal Government to bring peace to Benue State, the statement concluded.
