Asaba: Mrs Nkechi Chukwurah, Chairman Ndokwa east LGA, Delta state has urged Fulani Herdsmen in the area to be law abiding and maintain peace always as Ndokwa Easterners are peace loving people.
She made this known in a meeting called to address the recent incident that led to killings in Ossisa Community in a clash between the herdsmen and the community, to bring an end to the frequent incident of clashes in the area.
The meeting which was held in Asaba, in conjunction with the office of the Senior Security Adviser to the governor of Delta state on security looked into the incident and advised for peaceful coexistence between the people and the Fulani herdsmen.
The Chairman, while pleading with the herdsmen to be calm, asked them to avoid destruction of crops in the area and not take laws into their hands pointing out that no government will encourage killings in her domain as it is the responsibility of the government to protect lives and properties and no government official in Ndokwa east will do such.
The Fulani herdsmen, represented by Aruna Abubarka thanked the chairman for her efforts towards ensuring peace and security in the area, saying that most of them were born in the Niger delta bushes hence this is also their home and would try their best to ensure peace in the area, promising to resist outsiders who come in to make troubles in the name of herdsmen in the state.
While describing Osissa incident as an unfortunate one, he thanked the state government for their interventions, pleading for effective representation in the administration, at the same time asking the government to deal directly with the true Fulani herdsmen and not middlemen.
The SSA to the governor on security Chief Cassidy Iloba assured that the state government is very much concerned with the security of lives and properties in the state and will continue make security a high priority.
Those that were present in the meeting are the DSS, the police, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association and Gan Allah Fulani Development Association, were present at the meeting.
