The remaining opposition member in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Azuka Azaka representing Ndokwa West Local Government Area is now a member of PDP. Hon Azaka, who is before Friday 32014 was the only opposition member out of the 29 members of the State House of Assembly, defected to the ruling party in the state with his teeming supporters from Ndokwa West Local Government Area.
During the event which led to the eventual issuing of the PDP card by the State Chairman of the party, Chief Peter Nwaboshi, the speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Victor Ochei spoke exceedingly of the legislature and how he had desired to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He said that the PDP is not a cohesive party. That the party do not force others to join but because of the good work the party is doing in the state and its democratic administrative structure, Hon Azaka and his supporters decided to join the party because despite been in the minority the ruling party never treated the opposition as irrelevant.
The speaker who mounted the podium first with Hon Azuka Azaka later invited the Chairman of the party in the state to welcome the new members to the party. While speaking the Chairman, Chief Peter Nwaboshi promised Hon Azaka and his supporters of equal treatment in the party.
Hon Azaka while speaking to news men after the events says one of the reasons he decided to join the PDP is to enable him work for the success of the Delta North Agenda for the Governor of Delta State come 2015, because he cannot effectively do so as an opposition member.
It could be recalled that Hon Azuka Azaka and Hon Alphonsus C. Ojo where voted into the State House of Assembly under the platform of Democratic People’s Party (DPP) in 2011. Hon Alphonsus Ojo had since defected to PDP since 2013 leaving only Hon Azuka Azaka as the opposition member in the house. Hon Ojo while speaking to news men at the country home of Hon Azaka said the move was good and with the successful move, the people of Ndokwa West will get more attention from the state government.

Meanwhile, the inaugural meeting of the 32-man Steering Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was held at Asaba today, with the National Vice Chairman and Chairman South South, Chief Ikimi in attendance, together with a number of National Executive Officers. During the meeting officials of the party in the state where elected to steer the ship of the party in the state. Those elected includes the following,
(1) Chairman: Prophet Jones Elue (Isoko, and South Senatorial District). Ex DPP
(2) General Sec: Com Chidi Okonji ( Oshimili, and Delta North Sen District). Ex ACN
(3) Publicity Sec: Eng Precious Enuenweyoi (Ukwuani, and Delta North Sen District). Ex CPC
(4) Organising Sec: Harvest Igbein (Delta Central Sen District). Ex ACN.
(5) Treasurer: Chief Edewor (Delta Central Sen District). Ex ANPP.
All the legacy parties (DPP, ACN, ANPP, and CPC), as well as all the political zones (Delta Central, North and South) were well represented in both the Steering, and Executive Committees, and the prominent position ceded to the former DPP (faction) confirms the strength/influence of the DPP in the new dispensation.
According to our correspondence, the election of the executive members was peaceful and transparent. And the election was witnessed by a large crowd of observers. Our correspondence also reported that with this inauguration, the APC in the state is now set to build the state structures at the council and ward level.
