CAN Chairman Sylvanus Okorote, In A Discussion With The Delegation
ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency, says it has earmarked three point seven million insecticide treated nets to be distributed between the second and thirteenth of June.
The Executive Secretary of the agency Dr. Winful Orieke-Jude, made this known in Asaba at a consultative and sensitization visit to the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria.
The Insecticide Treated Nets distribution would be conducted on door-to-door basis across the state.
The Executive Secretary Dr. Winful Orieke-Jude, said the visit to CAN was part of efforts at creating awareness on the insecticide treated nets distribution exercise.
Dr. Orieke, represented by the Director Community Health Services and Disease Control Dr. Paul Yinkore, noted the goal was to prevent malaria through endearing the public to the use of mosquito nets.
“The bed nets are free, the bed nets are safe. Everyone is a beneficiary. We are hoping to get three point seven million bed nets.”
The State Program Manager for Malaria Dr. Aniah Julie, stated over three hundred personel of the agency have been mobilized to Sensitize residents about the nets distribution campaign.
“We want all Deltans to sleep inside their nets that would be given to them to prevent the contact between the people and the mosquito.”
Meanwhile, Chairman of the State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria Dr. Sylvanus Okorote, supported the use of mosquito nets at homes and advised the group to prevent any abuse of the process.
“Some persons have to look for the net to buy and then others have five, six in their houses. And then, others take it to the streets to sell.
“I think you need to work harder to ensure that these nets get to the people.”
The summit had in attendance malaria prevention coordinators from the local governments, interventionist partners and the media.
