LAGOS/Nigeria: The maiden edition of the Sisters’ Hangout, convened by seasoned broadcaster and Director General of the Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBO), Owerri, Chief Ify Onyegbule, was held on Friday, November 21, at the Sheraton Hotel, Lagos, bringing together women from diverse professional and business sectors for purposeful networking, collaboration, and shared inspiration.

Designed to dismantle the age-old stereotype that “women are the biggest problem of women,” the event spotlighted unity, collective vision, and the transformative power of mutual support among women.

In her opening remarks, Chief Ify Onyegbule underscored that the gathering was far more than a social meeting—it marked the birth of a strategic movement aimed at building a strong community of visionary women committed to lifting one another and rising together.

“Women-owned businesses and career journeys thrive when we create space for one another, share opportunities, and collaborate with intention. Today is not just a hangout; it is the beginning of a new era of sisterhood, support systems, and shared success,” she said.

She explained that the Hangout aims to be a safe, empowering space where women can connect deeply, exchange practical solutions to common challenges, and build sustainable partnerships that spark long-term impact.

The event featured energetic networking sessions, storytelling moments, and uplifting conversations that encouraged participants to think boldly, act fearlessly, and pursue sustainable growth. Professionals, entrepreneurs, creatives, and corporate executives engaged freely—sharing contacts, exchanging ideas, and discovering new avenues for collaboration.

Participants agreed to sustain the momentum beyond the event by:

Sharing opportunities, referrals, and relevant knowledge

Pursuing joint business ventures and collaborative projects

Providing mentorship and capacity-building for younger women

Building a structured community of accountability and empowerment

Challenging negative stereotypes about relationships among women

As the gathering drew to a close, Chief Onyegbule announced that preparations for Sisters’ Hangout 2.0 were already underway, with plans to expand its reach to include more women across diverse fields who are passionate about leadership, collaboration, and personal development.

“This movement has begun. We are building a tribe of women who think big, grow big, and win together. Every woman who believes in support systems and purposeful networking is welcome to join us,” she declared.
