WARRI/Nigeria: Dr. Andrew Omagbemi Igban, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Warri South-West Constituency II in the Delta State House of Assembly election, has called for unity and reflection on public service following the death of former Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan.

In a condolence statement signed by Igban, he said the former governor’s passing was a painful loss to his family, political associates and the people of Delta State, describing his years in public office as an important part of the state’s political history.

Igban noted that Uduaghan’s career in government spanned key positions, including Commissioner for Health, Secretary to the State Government and governor, a role in which he served two terms between 2007 and 2015.

He said the former governor’s death offered an opportunity for political leaders and public officeholders to reflect on the responsibilities that accompany leadership and the lasting impact of decisions taken in the course of public service.

According to Igban, the value of a leader’s life extends beyond the positions held, resting also on the contributions made to society and the people whose lives are affected by their service.

He urged political actors to set aside partisan differences in moments of grief, stressing that respect for the departed and compassion for bereaved families should take precedence over political divisions.

The APC candidate extended his condolences to the Uduaghan family, friends, political associates and other Deltans mourning the former governor. He also prayed that God would grant them the strength to cope with the loss.

Igban further encouraged younger political leaders to study the experiences of those who have served before them, drawing lessons on accountability, responsibility and commitment to the common good.

He said Uduaghan’s place in Delta State’s history would remain part of the state’s collective experience, while praying for the peaceful repose of the former governor’s soul and comfort for all those affected by his death.
