ASAB/Nigeria: Hon (Chief) Solomon Ighrakpata, the recently appointed Chairman of Delta State Board of Internal Revenue Service (IRS), has asserted that elevating internally generated revenue (IGR) for the State would be the foremost objective for the new Board as they assume their responsibilities.
Hon Igrakpata stated this in a reception, organized in his honour and the other four Executive Directors, followed the official inauguration of the Board by the State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori.
Drawing from his experience as a former Lawmaker representing Uvwie Constituency and the immediate past Deputy Chief Whip of the State Assembly, Hon Ighrakpata emphasized the pivotal role IGR plays in financing governments worldwide, emphasizing that bolstering its generation would result in substantial development for Delta State.
He pledged unwavering commitment to the core mandate of the State Internal Revenue Service, highlighting the Board’s determination to expand the State’s tax net, rather than burdening the populace and organizations with increased taxes.
Addressing the pressing financial burdens faced by the State government, Hon Ighrakpata stressed that amplifying revenue streams would be instrumental in realizing the ambitious goals set by Governor Oborevwori’s administration.
The Chairman expressed his intention to foster a collaborative approach with the Directors of the Board to achieve success and implored the support and cooperation of all critical stakeholders.
Hon Ighrakpata assured that the effective implementation of the State government’s programs and policies would invigorate the economy and foster the development of essential infrastructure in Delta State.
He further commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the appointment and vowed not to betray the trust bestowed upon him.
Amidst the downpour, Hon Ighrakpata lauded the presence of the State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, and other attendees from Delta State who graced the event, demonstrating their support and encouragement.
The IRS Chairman also extended his gratitude to the Speaker of the Delta State Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, and all Members of the House for their instrumental role in perfecting the appointments, acknowledging the profound honor bestowed upon him and his colleagues during their screening and subsequent confirmation at the Hallowed Chamber.
Hon Ighrakpata appealed for continuous support from the people of Delta State to advance Governor Oborevrwori’s MORE agenda, which seeks to propel the State towards the next level of development.
