ABUJA/Nigeria:  Chief Edwin Clark, the Ijaw National Leader and convener of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), has penned an open letter to commend Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State for his resolute commitment to infrastructure development.

The letter serves as a resounding endorsement of the governor’s recent decision to award a substantial N78 billion contract to Julius Berger Nigeria Limited for the construction of three vital flyover bridges, a cloverleaf, and road expansion projects in the Effurun and Warri areas of the state.

Clark, a former Minister of Information, conveyed his appreciation for Governor Oborevwori’s proactive approach to fulfilling his election promises to the residents of Effurun and Warri. He lauded the governor’s decision to embark on these significant projects as a crucial step toward rejuvenating the twin cities and giving them a much-needed facelift.

The elder statesman’s open letter, addressed to Governor Oborevwori and dated Monday, effusively praised the governor’s vision and determination to uplift Warri and Effurun. Clark expressed satisfaction with the ongoing projects and urged the governor to extend similar development initiatives to other regions within the state.

Clark stated, “I write to express on behalf of the people of Warri and elders of Warri referred to as ‘WARRI BOYS’ our gratitude and appreciation for the great plan you have for the rehabilitation and urban renewal of our hometown, Warri/Effurun. Particularly, the recent award of some major contracts to a reputable company such as Julius Berger in the sum of #78 billion is a show of your sincerity of purpose. Indeed, I understand that part payment has been made to the contractors.”

Quoting the governor’s inaugural speech on May 29, 2023, Chief Clark highlighted Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to prioritizing Warri’s development: “Warri, the commercial nerve center of the State will be given special attention under this administration. The process has already commenced with the establishment of the Warri, Uvwie and Environs Development Agency (WUEDA).”

Chief Clark further detailed the contracts awarded by the governor, emphasizing their significance to the region’s progress. These contracts include the construction of flyover bridges, road expansions, and critical infrastructure enhancements at key locations like the Enerhen junction to Marine Gate, Effurun roundabout to the Delta Steel Complex (DSC) Round-about, the Effurun flyover bridge, Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) junction, and DSC Round-about along Effurun/Patani, East-West Highway.

The elder statesman expressed confidence that the successful completion of these projects would bring immense joy and satisfaction to the people of the Old Delta Province and restore the former glory of Warri, which comprises several oil-producing communities. He underscored the potential economic and social benefits of these developments for the entire Delta State, emphasizing their role in fostering economic growth in the region’s main economic hub.

Chief Clark concluded his letter with words of encouragement and unwavering support for Governor Oborevwori. He pledged his availability for wise counsel and assistance whenever the governor might require it, ensuring that his fatherly prayers and good wishes would remain a constant source of strength for the governor as he continues to fulfill his promises to the people of Delta State.
