ASABA/Nigeria: The Senator representing Delta North in the National Assembly, Bar. Peter Nwaboishi has cleared the statue of the ongoing Amnesty Programme by the youths of Ndokwa in Delta state.
Addressing some Ndokwa youth leaders in Asaba recently, the senator informed the youth leaders that what the beneficiaries are undergoing falls under the Impacted Communities Amnesty Programme, which is different from the Niger Delta Agitators, who used arms and force to ask for attention to the area.
Senator Nwaboishi told the youths that at resumption as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, he noticed that Ndokwa people were highly short-changed, so, he started the process of including the Ndokwa nation in the Amnesty training programmes, and ensured such beneficiaries will not be addressed as militants.
While emphasising that the current Amnesty training for the Ndokwa nation is different from others as it is for non Niger Delta agitators, he said that it is only youths of Ndokwa that are beneficiaries of the program that commenced this year.
He however denied that he single headedly made input on the list of beneficiaries, as the President General of Ndokwa Nation, (NNU), Chief Johnson Opone counter signed the final list that was submitted to the Amnesty Office in Abuja.
It could be recalled that at the beginning of the process of the initiation of the Amnesty Programme for Ndokwa youths, Ndokwa Reporters and other concerned Ndokwa citizens drew the attention of the Senator on the negative name that befalls the beneficiaries in the future, as the tag Militants will always be part of their working and social experiences.
