ASABA/Nigeria: The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, says it will resist any foul play by political parties in ongoing primaries for Isoko North Constituency By-Election in Delta State, slated to terminate on the 20th of March.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for INEC in Delta State, Pastor Monday Udoh-Tom, stated this in an interview with newsmen in Asaba, the state capital while explaining preparations for the forthcoming by-election in Isoko North State Constituency, fixed for the 10th of April, next month.
“So far, this commission has got in contact with stakeholders. Recently we were at Isoko North to inspect RACs and the office of INEC in Isoko North for the preparations for this election. Notice of Election has been posted since the 10th of March, making sure we have the 30 days as allowed by law. So far so good.”
Mr. Monday Udoh-Tom stressed that INEC was committed to ensuring the primaries and by-election were conducted according global best practices.
“Then the political parties that are doing their primaries between now and Saturday, my advice to them is that the person that won the election, their names should be sent to INEC. WE have INEC monitors in all the primaries. You can’t say Mr. ‘A’ won, and for whatever reason you go and bring Mr. ‘B’, INEC will not accept it.”
The by-election was necessitated following the demise of Tim Owhefere, the Member representing Isoko North State Constituency in Delta State House of Assembly.
