INSECURITY: DPO Charges Onicha Ugbo Residents On Securing Selves …As Community Leader Calls For Reopening Of Police Station

ONITCHA-UGBO/Nigeria: The Divisional Police officer (DPO) in charge of Issele Uku in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, CSP Onyeke Udeviotu has charged the Residents of Onicha Ugbo tone their brothers’ keeper and take the issue of security very seriously.

CSP, Udeviotu who gave the charge while speaking during the town Hall meeting held at the Royal Palace said that he was in community to sensitize them on the things they were practicing before to guard against attack from unsuspecting individuals just as they were already aware that the country was undergoing serious security challenges across the country.

He admonished the people to take proactive measures by being vigilant in order to alert their neighbours when there was any suspicious movement around the environment, and subsequently alert the Police or any other security agencies within the Locality.

Security in the churches, the Police Boss advocated that the church should engage the services of the youths’ movement, boys / scout brigade as well as the ushers to be stationed at different locations within the premises to alert everyone when they notice unusual movement.

At Schools, he advised that schools should not depend on the Government alone, stated that the PTA can provide security guards to watch the school especially during the day.

The DPO who used the opportunity to urge the youths to desist from the habit of taking hard drugs and also abstain from involving themselves in cultism and Yahoo activities, just as he advised the parents to challenge their children if they notice any sudden wealth that was not legitimately acquired.

Responding on behalf of the community, the Iyase Agba, Chief Alex Odi- Okoh thanked the DPO for the tutorial to the residents to be security conscious and as well as be their brothers keepers, saying it was all-encompassing.

He assured the police boss that the community would not leave any stone unturned to prevent insecurity of life and property in the locality, promising to set up security committee, which he said would include the youths for effective coordination.

Chief Odi- Okoh, however, appealed to the DPO to assist in facilitating the re-opening of the Police station in the Town.

Meanwhile a community leader Chief Madu Nwayobuije the Ihama of Onicha Ugbo has called for the reopening of the closed station in the community, in other to improve the security in the community.

Chief Nwayobuije who made the call shortly after the town Hall meeting with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) CSP Onyeke Udeviotu at Onicha Ugbo, while speaking to  journalists disclosed that the station which was built by the community and handed over to the Nigeria police authority many years ago.

He added that the DPO’S quarters was also built by him for the comfort of   any officer serving in the station, and explained that the station was functioning effectively until recently it was shut down indefinitely by the police authority.

Continuing, the chief stated that there was great need for the reopening of the station particularly now that the whole country was facing serious security challenges across the country, such as kidnapping, banditry, incessant attack on churches, as well as our farmers by unknown gun men, among others.

Chief Nwayobuije used the opportunity to appeal to the relevant Police authority to urgently look the plight of the community and do the expected needful before too long,  adding that travelling to Issele Uku or other distance places to get the services of the Police was discouraging and very inconveniencing would at the end delayed police attention.
