International Day of Peace 2025: DOPF Urges Restraint as Ethnic Tensions Threaten Peace in Warri

Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF)

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) has raised alarm over the growing tension among ethnic nationalities in Warri, particularly in Warri South Local Government Area, warning that peace remains the bedrock of unity, development, and coexistence.

In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Oghenekparobo Ehvwubare, FIMC, ANIPR, the Forum reminded stakeholders that this year’s International Day of Peace, marked globally on September 21 with the theme “Act Now for a Peaceful World,” underscores the urgent responsibility of individuals, communities, traditional institutions, and governments to safeguard peace.

The Forum expressed concern that Delta State, already battling various security challenges, cannot afford further unrest in Warri, the commercial nerve centre of the state. It stressed that any escalation of ethnic conflict would have grave socio-economic consequences across the region.

DOPF called on the Delta State Government, security agencies, and traditional rulers in Warri and its environs to take proactive steps to foster dialogue, promote inclusivity, and sustain peace through constructive engagement.

It further appealed to youths, community leaders, and stakeholders to exercise restraint, warning that conflict leaves scars that take decades to heal, while peace fosters unity, development, and prosperity.

“Warri has long been the economic and social heartbeat of Delta State. Allowing ethnic tensions to escalate in such a vital hub is unacceptable. The path to lasting peace lies in dialogue, inclusivity, and mutual understanding. As we observe this year’s International Day of Peace, we are reminded to ‘act now for a peaceful world’—choosing conversation over conflict, tolerance over division, and unity over discord,” the Forum stated.
