Isoko South Chairman Urges Peace in Olomoro Community Leadership Crisis

OLEH/Nigeria: The Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area in Delta State, Comrade Friday Ovoke Warri, has called on the leadership of the Olomoro community to respect the rule of law and embrace peace in resolving their internal disputes.

Warri made the appeal on Monday during a peace meeting held at Otobo Hall in Oleh, the council’s headquarters. The meeting brought together the community’s monarch, key stakeholders, youth leaders, women leaders, and security agencies to address a prolonged leadership crisis stemming from the disputed removal of Lucky Ejor as the President-General of the community.

The chairman intervened following allegations that the Odio-Ologbo of Olomoro had removed Ejor from office without adhering to the constitutional provisions governing such actions. Speaking firmly, Warri clarified, “As of today, Lucky Ejor remains the President-General of the Olomoro community. Beyond the community’s constitution, the Delta State regulatory law on community leadership does not recognise a caretaker committee in such matters.”

The Ovie of Emede Kingdom, Johnson Ewhiri II, also weighed in, urging the Odio-Ologbo of Olomoro to align with the government’s position to avoid further unrest. “We will comply with the government’s stance. I have advised my colleague to cease avoiding government interventions, as all efforts are geared towards preventing crises in the community,” he stated.

Community leaders present reiterated their support for Ejor’s leadership, stressing that any attempt to remove the President-General must follow the established constitutional process. Women leaders and other stakeholders also affirmed their commitment to constitutional compliance, pledging to uphold due process in future leadership decisions.

The peace meeting was attended by the Secretary to the Isoko South Local Government, the Divisional Police Officer of Oleh, representatives from the State Security Service, the Ovie of Aviara Kingdom, the Ovie of Emede Kingdom, and the Isoko Development Union (IDU), among others.

The resolution of the Olomoro leadership dispute is seen as a significant step towards restoring harmony and stability within the community.
